April 06
We were introduced to Mr A as he was dealing with us for a Mortgage.

We worked through a Fact Find with him which allowed us to obtain information about his income and also how long if any he would be covered by his employer if he had an accident or illness.

As Mr A was a Chef - his employer would not pay him if he was unable to work.

We worked through benefits and recommended a Friends First Income Protection plan.

We were able to protect 75% of his salary at the time. The waiting period was 13 weeks and this is the earliest waiting period you can have.  We had recommended at the time that Mr A accumulate a lump sum over time and leave this in his bank account. This would help him look after himself in the short-term.


October 2007
I received a phoncall from Mr A's wife on the 16th of October 2007. Mr A had been knocked down off his bike and suffered a broken upper leg. She said that Mr A could be out of work for up to a Year.

We organised the relevant claim forms to be completed and worked closely with Mr A to ensure that all the paperwork was completed speedily. After Mr A's initial 13 weeks waiting period Friends First started paying out 75% of his salary less state benefit of €9,662. This worked out at €363.59 per week.


June 08
Mr A is still unable to work and has been receiving an amount of €1,314.13 every 4 weeks. This includes a deduction of €117.39 for tax due. This will continue to be paid until he is fit enough to return to work.
